Born 82 years ago to Pa Emmanuel Adedeji and Mama Beatrice Aarinola Omole, Professor Wale Omole’s journey began at Ilesha Grammar School (1956-1962) and led him to the University of Ife, after briefly working at the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources in Ibadan. His academic brilliance took him to the University of Alberta, Canada, where he earned his PhD (1971-1973). Rising swiftly in academia, he became a Professor in 1980 and, in 1983, the first alumnus to serve as Dean of Agriculture at his alma mater.

His visionary lecture in 1983, “Waste Recycling in the Food Chain – Turning Trash to Cash,” foreshadowed future agricultural transformation efforts and earned him international respect.
Beyond academia, Professor Omole has had a profound impact on media and culture, serving as Chairman of The Guardian Newspapers’ Editorial Board and playing a key role in establishing the Yoruba Academy. His efforts in regional development include contributions to the Western Nigeria Development Agenda and the DAWN Commission, where he continues to advocate for true federalism and restructuring in Nigeria.
Professor Omole’s life is a testament to resilience, integrity, and unwavering dedication to his community and family. From working as a disc jockey and model to fund his education, to his philanthropic efforts supporting scholarships for underprivileged students, he has remained deeply connected to his Yoruba roots.
